And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake.Mark 13:13
If you can get to the point where you’re okay with being hated, you will finally be free.
Jesus doesn’t want us to be plagued with people pleasing. Seeking approval from others will drag us down, keep us stuck, and relegate us to a life of living in fear.
On the contrary: true freedom is found when the opinions of man no longer sway you. When you can smile in the face of being hated, knowing that you’re following Jesus, and that he is for you – your life will be marked by joy, peace, and confident rest.
It sounds crazy, but the next time you’re hated (or made fun of, fired, marginalized, ostracized, etc.) for obeying God – try smiling instead. You will at last be free.
“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12)
